share your #FlyingWhileMuslim story

I was asked about Osama Bin Laden at an LA airport. I was a student and newly married at that time (this is after 9/11 times and I used to cover my head). I have missed a flight once because of additional security checks (which required airport security to ask us extra questions as my husband and I were returning from Pakistan). Just last year in 2022, I had to go through additional security check because I was coming from Pakistan. I was traveling with my 4 year old son and we are both US citizens. I have been working here and have a clean background. It is always disappointing how I get treated at the airport.

Have you ever received a response or resolution from either an airline, airport or government official regarding the discrimination you experienced? If so, what was the response or the result?

I never followed up on this.

Has the discrimination you've faced made it harder for you to travel? If so, in what ways and at what cost?

Yes.

What was your reaction to the No-Fly List leak story? how did it make you feel?

Very disappointed- glad that it surfaced. I hope changes will be made to create a fair and non-discriminatory environment.
